He has published studies on spatial prediction of soil properties at regional and national scales, land use and climate change impacts on soil system, life cycle analysis of bioenergy crops, and benchmarking earth system model projections.
Research focus: Land surface spatial heterogeneity, soil carbon storage and dynamics, anthropogenic and climatic impacts on soil system and benchmarking earth system model projections. His studies use field observations, remote sensing and environmental datasets, and geospatial and process-based modeling
Key engagements: Umakant is currently investigating (1) climate extreme’s impact on agricultural productivity and soil carbon dynamics, (2) engineering solutions to enhance soil carbon sequestration, and (3) benchmarking land surface model projections.
